1/14/01: Woohoooo!  I'm an aunt once again-- Jeff and Mindy had their baby boy, Jack Henry Knapp, Saturday morning at 4:13 AM.  He was 9 lbs, 4 oz. and 21 inches.  He's got hair, a strong grip, a hearty appetite and quite a set of lungs.  :-)

On Christmas, Mindy invited me to be in the delivery room when Jack was born.  She told me that Jeff would call me as soon as she went into labor, so I could drive up from Delaware in time for the birth. So Jeff called me at 3:15am Saturday morning to report that Mindy's water had just broke and she was having some minimal contractions, so I took a quick shower and started the drive up at about 3:45am. It's a 2.5 hour drive to the hospital for me, so I was moving pretty quickly.

Jeff and Mindy arrived at the hospital at 4:00. At 4:09am, she was given a bed in the delivery room, and they hadn't even had time to give her an IV or anything yet.  They had just finished hooking her up to the monitor when, at 4:13, Jack was out!  So it was probably one of the quickest births of all time.  Turbo-birth!  Insta-kid!

Needless to say, I didn't make it up in time. :-) But I saw him as soon as I got there, and he's absolutely perfect.  It's really staggering to hold something so new and pure in your hands.
